What is Docky?

Docky is a native macOS utility that replaces or complements the system Dock with a more customizable app launcher and workspace strip. It is designed for Mac users who want faster access to apps, windows, folders, and widgets from one place. Docky supports configurable layouts, live window previews, a fullscreen app launcher, and built-in widgets such as calendar, weather, batteries, and now playing controls. It also lets you organize items with folders, spacers, dividers, and Smart Stacks, and it supports custom icons and scripted actions for advanced workflows. Docky runs on modern versions of macOS and is aimed at users who want a more flexible desktop navigation experience than the standard Dock provides.

Key features

  • Replace or run alongside the standard macOS Dock
  • Launch apps and search from a fullscreen keyboard-friendly launcher
  • Preview and switch between open windows with live thumbnails
  • Add built-in widgets such as Calendar, Weather, Batteries, and Now Playing
  • Organize apps, folders, spacers, and dividers in a custom layout
  • Create Smart Stacks to cycle through multiple widgets in one tile
  • Group apps into folders with nested navigation and drag and drop
  • Customize icons, themes, and profiles for different workflows

Safety overview

Status: Use with caution

Docky is legitimate desktop software, but it needs powerful macOS permissions such as Accessibility and Screen Recording to manage windows and show live previews. That access is normal for its purpose, yet it allows the app to observe window content and control parts of your interface. Install it only if you want those features, review the permissions it requests, and remove those permissions later if you stop using it.

Recommendation: Keep Docky if you actively use it as part of your Mac workflow. If you installed it for testing or no longer want a custom Dock, you can remove it; macOS will continue using the standard Dock, but Docky-specific layouts, widgets, and automation features will no longer be available.
