What is DeltaSnap?

DeltaSnap is a native macOS utility for managing APFS snapshots and using them as practical version control for files and folders. It helps users create fast checkpoints, browse earlier versions of items, compare changes between points in time, and restore only the files they need instead of rolling back an entire Mac. The app is aimed at power users, developers, administrators, and anyone who wants a clearer recovery workflow for local file changes. DeltaSnap also indexes snapshot history so you can search for deleted files and inspect captured versions across tracked volumes. It supports scheduled snapshots, retention controls, Finder integration, and a bundled command-line workflow for users who want to automate tasks. DeltaSnap is developed by ScaleNinja Software LLP for macOS 15 or later.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

DeltaSnap is legitimate Mac utility software for working with APFS snapshots. For its core job, it may request elevated setup approval and Full Disk Access so it can index protected locations and restore files you choose. That level of access is normal for snapshot and recovery tools, but it also means the app can see a broad portion of local file data. Snapshots stay on the same disk rather than acting as an independent backup, so you should still keep a separate backup for important files.

Recommendation: Keep DeltaSnap if you use it for snapshot-based file recovery, checkpointing, or change tracking on your Mac. If you no longer use these features, you can remove it, but you will lose its interface, indexing, and restore workflow for managed snapshots. Continue using a separate backup solution for long-term protection against disk loss or hardware failure.
