Dashboard

What is Dashboard?

Seagate Dashboard is a legacy utility for Seagate external storage products on Mac. It helps users back up files to supported Seagate drives, restore saved data, and manage certain drive-related features from a desktop interface. Seagate also documented media-sharing and social backup features for supported devices, although some features have changed or been removed over time. On Mac, users commonly encountered Dashboard when setting up older Backup Plus and similar Seagate drives, especially for simple scheduled backups and device management. It is best understood as older drive companion software rather than a general-purpose backup platform, and newer Seagate products are more commonly associated with Toolkit instead of Dashboard.

Key features

• Create simple backup plans for supported Seagate drives
• Restore files from previous backups
• Manage certain supported drive settings
• Verify and monitor backup activity
• Access legacy media-sharing and social backup functions on supported devices

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

This is legitimate Seagate software for older storage products. It may need access to files you choose to back up and to connected Seagate hardware, which is normal for its purpose. Because Dashboard is legacy software and some features are no longer current, use it mainly for older compatible drives and avoid relying on it as your only backup method without confirming that backups still run and restore correctly on your version of macOS.

Recommendation: Keep Seagate Dashboard if you still use an older compatible Seagate drive or need access to existing Dashboard backup workflows. If you no longer use those devices or have moved to newer Seagate tools or another backup method, you can remove it.
