Capture NX-D
Capture NX-D is Nikon photo-editing software for viewing, processing, and adjusting NEF, NRW, JPEG, and TIFF images on Mac and PC.
What is Capture NX-D?
Capture NX-D is a desktop photo application for viewing, processing, and adjusting images from Nikon cameras. It is designed primarily for photographers who work with Nikon RAW formats such as NEF and NRW, while also supporting JPEG and TIFF files in the same workflow. The app uses non-destructive editing with sidecar data, so image adjustments are stored separately from the original photo files. Common tasks include reviewing shoots, comparing images, adjusting exposure and white balance, applying Picture Control settings, reducing noise, correcting lens-related issues, and exporting finished files. Capture NX-D also supports batch processing, making it useful when applying edits to groups of photos. On Mac, it fits into a desktop workflow for importing, sorting, refining, and preparing Nikon images for sharing, printing, or further editing.

Safety overview
Status: Safe
Capture NX-D is legitimate Nikon photo-processing software. It normally needs access to the folders where you store and export photos, which is expected for an image editor and RAW processor. Using it may create sidecar adjustment data next to your image files, so keep that in mind if you organize or move photo folders between apps or devices. Downloading it from Nikon and keeping backups of original photos are sensible precautions before large editing or batch-export jobs.
Recommendation: Keep Capture NX-D if you still edit or review Nikon camera files with it, especially older RAW libraries and Picture Control-based workflows. If you no longer use Nikon’s desktop editing tools, you can remove it like other apps, but keep your photo library and any exported images or sidecar data you still need.
