What is BlueBubbles?

BlueBubbles is a social communication app for macOS that runs a server on your Mac so you can access iMessage conversations from other devices. It is designed for people who want to send and receive messages, attachments, and chat updates on Android phones, desktop clients, or the web while keeping a Mac signed in to Messages. The app works by connecting to your Mac's local Messages data and relaying that information to BlueBubbles clients, which makes it useful for cross-device messaging workflows. BlueBubbles also supports notification delivery and offers optional advanced features for users who want deeper message integration. Because the server stays on your Mac, it is commonly used on a dedicated Mac that remains powered on and connected.

Key features

  • Send and receive iMessage conversations on supported BlueBubbles clients
  • Sync attachments, chat updates, and message history through your Mac
  • Use Android, desktop, and web clients with a single Mac-based server
  • Receive notifications for new messages on connected devices
  • Create chats and send attachments from linked clients
  • Keep a dedicated Mac awake to maintain message availability

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

BlueBubbles is legitimate software, but it needs broad access on your Mac to work with Messages. Full Disk Access is commonly required so the server can read message data, and some setups may also use notification services or optional networking features to reach your devices remotely. If you use remote access options, protect the Mac with a strong account password and only enable the features you actually need. Removing the app stops BlueBubbles clients from syncing with your Mac.

Recommendation: Keep BlueBubbles if you actively use it to access iMessage from non-Apple devices or other computers. If you no longer use that setup, you can remove the app and its related data to stop background access and remote message syncing. Review optional remote connectivity settings before leaving it installed on a Mac that stays online all the time.
