Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite
Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite is a macOS companion app for creating proxy media automatically from watch folders used in video editing workflows.
What is Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite?
Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite is a native desktop utility for macOS that creates proxy video files from source media placed in user-selected watch folders. It is part of Blackmagic Design’s video production ecosystem and is commonly used alongside DaVinci Resolve and Blackmagic Cloud Store workflows. Editors and assistant editors use it to generate lighter proxy files that are easier to play back, share, and edit than original camera media. The app monitors designated folders, processes newly added footage in the background, and saves proxy files into a proxy subfolder so they can be picked up in supported workflows. This makes it useful for collaborative post-production, remote editing, and managing large media libraries on local storage or shared storage.
Key features
- Automatically watch selected folders for newly added source media
- Generate proxy files in the background while you continue other work
- Save proxies into a proxy subfolder inside the watched folder
- Help editors work with lighter media for smoother playback and sharing
- Support proxy-based workflows used with DaVinci Resolve and Blackmagic storage products

Safety overview
Status: Safe
This is legitimate video workflow software from Blackmagic Design. Its normal behavior includes monitoring folders you choose and reading media files in those locations so it can create proxy copies. It may use significant CPU, disk activity, and storage space while processing footage, which is expected for this kind of app. Keep an eye on available disk space and use only folders you intend to include in your editing workflow.
Recommendation: Keep Blackmagic Proxy Generator Lite if you use DaVinci Resolve, Blackmagic Cloud Store products, or any proxy-based editing workflow. If you do not create proxies from watch folders, you can remove it without affecting unrelated apps, though you may lose convenient automatic proxy generation for your media folders.
