What is Bionic?
Bionic is a desktop AI app for working with open language models on everyday knowledge work and coding tasks. It helps users research topics, create and edit documents, analyze files, and work inside local codebases from a project-based workspace. Bionic supports Work Projects for writing, research, and document tasks, plus Code Projects for repository work with file, search, Git, and shell tools. It can run local models on your computer, connect to remote models through LM Link, or use open-source cloud models for heavier tasks. The app also includes real-time voice input with local transcription, which can be useful for drafting, prompting, and editing hands-free. Bionic is published by Element Labs and is offered for macOS and Windows as a separate app alongside LM Studio.

Bionic’s local-model and local-transcription features are consistent with an AI workspace that runs tasks on your computer. Because the app can access documents, code repositories, shell commands, and cloud-hosted models, review which folders and files you give it access to and confirm whether a session is using a local, remote, or cloud model before handling sensitive data. If you use cloud features, check account, billing, and data-handling settings inside the app.
Recommendation: Keep Bionic if you use it for local AI work, document tasks, or coding assistance. If you no longer use it, you can remove it like other user-installed apps, but expect any saved projects, model settings, or local workspace data tied to the app to stop being available there.
