About This Hack
About This Hack is a macOS hardware information app that recreates the classic pre-Ventura About This Mac view with extra details for Macs and Hackintosh systems.
What is About This Hack?
About This Hack is a macOS utility that shows hardware and system information in a familiar, classic About This Mac-style interface. It helps users quickly view their Mac model, macOS version, processor, memory, graphics, connected displays, and startup disk details without digging through multiple system tools. The app is useful for people who want a simpler overview of their computer, especially users comparing hardware configurations, taking screenshots, or checking display and storage information at a glance. It also includes Hackintosh-specific details such as Clover or OpenCore bootloader information when those are available, while still working on real Macs. Additional touches include support links, hover details for some values, and a custom logo option for the overview screen. About This Hack is published by Alexander Skula and is built for macOS 12 Monterey and newer.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
This app reads system information to present hardware and storage details, which is normal for its purpose. Users may choose to hide the serial number before sharing screenshots, since system overview screens can expose identifying device details. If you no longer use the app, removing it should only affect access to its own interface and preferences.
Recommendation: Keep About This Hack if you want a faster, more familiar way to review Mac or Hackintosh hardware details. If you do not use it, you can remove it without affecting macOS itself, though you will lose its custom overview view and any app-specific preferences.
