Scanning preferences change which candidates appear. They do not modify existing files, but overly broad settings can create long scans or hide important results.
Change minimum sizes
Open Settings → Scanning to configure supported thresholds:
- Large & Old Files defaults to files larger than 50 MB.
- Similar Photos defaults to photos larger than 40 KB.
- Duplicate Files defaults to files larger than 200 KB.
Use the Default button to restore the original value.
Lower thresholds include more small files and can substantially increase scanning and review time. Higher thresholds focus on larger storage opportunities but omit smaller candidates.
Use an ignore list
Add a file or location to an ignore list when it is repeatedly shown but should not be considered by the supported scan.
Use the relevant result action or Settings → Ignore List when available, and confirm the exact path before adding it.
Good candidates include active project folders, managed libraries, irreplaceable archives, and folders owned by software you do not want diCleaner to analyze.
Avoid ignoring a broad parent folder unless you intend to exclude everything beneath it.
Review ignored items
Periodically remove rules for paths that no longer exist or no longer need exclusion. An ignore rule can explain why a file is missing from scan results.
Ignoring a path does not hide it from Finder, protect it from other applications, or create a backup.
Diagnose unexpected results
- Confirm the active threshold.
- Review the relevant ignore list.
- Check folder access and Full Disk Access.
- Start a new scan.
Settings affect new scans; an existing result does not necessarily update when a threshold or ignore rule changes.
