A vault can become inaccessible through disk failure, accidental deletion, corruption, or lost credentials. Maintain more than one tested copy.

Back up safely

  1. Finish file operations.
  2. Lock and close the vault.
  3. Quit diCleaner when its instructions require it.
  4. Copy the complete supported vault data to reliable storage.
  5. Preserve required recovery information separately.
  6. Test opening the backup before relying on it.

Do not assume a partially synchronized copy is usable.

Move a vault

Create a backup first. Move or copy the complete vault as one supported unit, open it from the new location, verify representative files, then retire the old copy only after testing.

Cloud and removable storage

Simultaneous synchronization and active vault writes can conflict. Removable storage can disconnect unexpectedly. Use these locations only according to feature support.

Credential safety

Backing up encrypted data without its required credential or recovery material may not provide a usable recovery path.
