Recent-item lists and the current clipboard can make repeated work faster, but they may also reveal file names, applications, copied text, an image, or copied file URLs to someone using the same Mac account.

Clear recent items

  1. Open Privacy.
  2. Choose Recent Items Cleanup.
  3. Review the supported applications or history categories.
  4. Close applications whose recent history you intend to clear.
  5. Select only the categories you want to reset.
  6. Confirm the cleanup.

Clearing a recent-items list normally removes shortcuts or history references, not the original document. However, each application stores history differently, so read the result description before confirming.

Clear the current clipboard

The diCleaner Clipboard Cleanup card reads the current general macOS clipboard. Hover over the card to preview supported text, image, or file/URL content, then choose Clear to empty the current clipboard.

diCleaner does not maintain or erase a multi-item clipboard history. A separate clipboard manager may keep its own history independently.

Before clearing, paste any content you still need into a secure document or copy it again from its original source.

What clearing history does not do

It does not remove:

  • The original file.
  • A copy already pasted into another app.
  • Cloud or account activity stored by a third party.
  • Backups or snapshots.
  • History maintained independently by another clipboard manager.

If history returns

An open application may rewrite its current recent list when it quits. Close the app first, clear the supported history, then reopen it. Synced account data may also repopulate depending on the owning application.
